I'm sorry, I still dont understand.

If you are saying, "common wont automatically upgrade", please show me the
specific output of,

pkg-get -u common

NOT

pkg-get -v -u common.

the "-v" flag shows what it "would" do, but it does not actually do it.
its sort of like a "debug" flag.. except that both -d and -D are already
taken :)
