(which amusingly doesn't have any update notes for 1.5.)


Wrong answer.  You are supposed to say "I have software foo which requires
PNG 1.5" or at minimum can even use 1.5.

1.5 is incompatible with 1.2 so if I update to 1.5 all of our existing
software (as far as I've checked which was several) will need patching to
use either 1.5 or 1.2 which is the easy patch.  Think, if the upstream
writers haven't updated to 1.5 why do you think you can or should?  I
decided not to force maintainers to patch just to continue using the 1.2
until there was a case that required it.


I am subscribed to the PNG mailing list so am fully aware of update
notifications.
