Phil:

You are correct. The sun version of sendmail has been disabled for quite
some time here since I started using the CSW package, but somehow it got
re-enabled.

There is a /etc/init.d/sendmail script which enables the
network/smtp:sendmail and network/sendmail-client:default services.
However, there is no link to this file in any of the /etc/rc*.d
directoreies, so I am at a loss to understand how this was run. I ran
/etc/init.d/sendmail stop and disabled the rogue services and now I have
the standard single sendmail and queue runner processes with the single
svc:/network/smtp:cswsendmail service enabled.

I know there is some logical explanation for what actually happened, but
sometimes it seems like a ghost is manipulating the system! :-) Maybe
something happens during a Sun patch operation where the installed sendmail
package is updated and the patch script restarts the services even though they
are disabled. That's the only explanation I can think of. I'll watch more
closely on the next reboot to see what happens.

Thanks for being a sanity check on my thinking.

Regards,
