There are quite a lot. It usually ends up in rewriting the manpage.
Does it format correctly with
   /opt/csw/bin/gnroff -man <manpage>
? Then you could produce plaintext during package creation and
produce catman without much hassle. Unless, of course, you prefer
to learn ROFF ;-)

At least I don't know a solution with reasonable results.
