no, it does not work for me.

As you point out, we already have a pre-existing magic string in the catalog:

> # SITEFEATURES gzippedcatalog

If you want consistency in catalog magic strings, then we could just
as easily go with

 # CREATIONDATE 2011-04-21T20:10:46Z
