X11 can be needed for command line programs that also have display
functionality, X11 is not not just for desktops.
$ ldd /opt/csw/bin/gm | grep X11
        libX11.so.4 =>   /usr/openwin/lib/libX11.so.4


Adding system packages after patching could be a problem as the
additions aren't patched.


I'm sure when we discussed this before we recommended that users have
a full install.  The full OS is 1% of my newest machine but I've done
full installs since 1GB hard drives (the OS was smaller then, 1GB
sounded bigger too) because someday not doing so will bite me - as here.
Why does anyone not do a full install?
