It explains what is in the package. However, the procedure you use is somewhat
illegal, because the package contains a reference to the repository of the time
the package was build. This makes it possible to check out the specific revision
a package was built from. If you commit later this does not work. For your own
testing this is not relevant, but for submission it is mandatory that everything
has been checked in prior to building the package. It is sufficient to do a
  gmake platforms-repackage
after commiting to get valid packages.
