This bumps the version up to 7.3.7, and is a highly recommended update, as it fixes several bugs from the 7.3.6 release which could result in loss of data. From the PostgreSQL main site :- "Due to insufficient interlocking between transaction commit and checkpointing, it was possible for transactions committed just before the most recent checkpoint to be lost, in whole or in part, following a database crash and restart.... Due to the seriousness of the first bug, as relates to data integrity, it is strongly recommended that administrators upgrade their database servers at their earliest convience. This is a major upgrade. The short set of need-to-know notes is at the top of README.CSW. A copy is attached. Be sure to stop whatever process is calling SA. For me, that is mimedefang. To restate things in case you are using a site-wide bayes database, before getting the new package, run `sa-learn --rebuild`. This will update the database with changes that are only in bayes_journal. After the upgrade, run `sa-learn --sync` to upgrade the database. If you get a message about 'unable to use version 2.0 database', ignore it and be patient. The database upgrade may take a while. Please read the documentation before using SA3.0. There are many changes and new features. Finally, check permissions on the bayes database and /opt/csw/etc/spamassassin directory and make any changes needed for your environment. Do not forget to run spamassassin in debug mode and lint the rules to test out your environment. Alex -------------- next part -------------- Notes for the CSW spamassassin distribution ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Version 3.0 is a major upgrade. Read all available information on upgrading. See /opt/csw/share/doc/spamassassin UPGRADE for most of this information. Before starting whatever process you are using to run SpamAssassin after the upgrade, run `sa-learn --sync` to upgrade the database to version 3.0 format. Before starting spamassassin, run the following and look for warnings and errors that need to be fixed. Some scores are deprecated from version 2.x. These will produce only warnings, but you may want to see if similar scores are available and make the appropriate adjustments. Also, note the change in startup options in the UPGRADE file. No, because CSW uses the Solaris package management system, ie a datebase of what files are installed and where. You need to get Solaris to remove the packages for you. Something like "pkginfo | grep CSW | awk '{print $2}' | xargs" will print all the csw packages that are installed. (pkginfo prints all the installed packages, the grep filters for the csw ones, the awk only prints the packages name, and the xargs get it all on one line.) You can then do "pkgrm {package list}" to remove the packages. (you could just stick the pkgrm on the end of the xargs, but I think thats too scary, this way you can give the list a quick audit first. A cleaner way is to do something along the lines of (Loosely taken from the example on the CSW Gnome bugtracker page):- # pkginfo | grep CSW | awk '{print $2}' > /tmp/cswpkgs.txt # while read pkg; do yes | pkgrm $pkg ; done < /tmp/cswpkgs.txt Which will put a list of CSW packages into /tmp/cswpkgs.txt, and then remove them without asking for confirmation. -Mark mark at blastwave.org From asmoore at blastwave.org Wed Sep 29 21:32:08 2004 From: asmoore at blastwave.org (Alex S Moore) Date: Wed, 29 Sep 2004 14:32:08 -0500 Subject: [csw-users] Re: [csw-maintainers] Evolution 2.0.0 test packages available In-Reply-To: <20040928173859.GA11242@zerfleddert.de> References: <20040928173859.GA11242@zerfleddert.de> Message-ID: <20040929143208.6c700ae6@sws602> On Tue, 28 Sep 2004 19:38:59 +0200 Michael Gernoth wrote: > Hello, > I have just uploaded first test-packages of evolution 2.0.0 to: > http://blastwave.informatik.uni-erlangen.de/csw/users/michael/ > Very, very nice Michael. " None of these releases require a dump-n-reload in order to address the problems. Please let me know of any issues. If you are using site-wide bayes, be sure to run `sa-learn --rebuild` before starting the package upgrade. Not a good idea, as you'll still have all the packages registered in your package database, which will likely lead to all kinds of confusion. No problems encountered and it is quite nice. Ran fine under CDE and as before, displaying a folder and any message in that folder is instantaneous. Even when the folder has over 22,000 messages. The new message view appears a bit different, but that must be by design. I will get used to it.
