As he has to add circa two or three extensions per month, avoiding recompiles would make life easier. How does the CSW PHP get round this, or is there a list of included extentions available, and how they are added to each release? Hi, As the package of PHP from Blastwave is a binary, he shouldn't have to do recompiles anyway. It is possible (in theory) to add any extra modules in, as long as his source code matches the Blastwave PHP version. But I've never tried doing this, so your milage may vary... > How does the CSW PHP get round this, or is there a list of included > extentions available, and how they are added to each release? CSW PHP is a "monolithic" package, in that many extensions are compiled straight into PHP itself. A list of these can be seen by looking at the output from phpinfo(). Try creating a PHP file somewhere on your server, containing the following : And access it in a web browser. You'll get a page of very detailed information about the PHP build. For reference, I've included the current extensions enabled in our PHP package below. If you'd like any specifics about the build process, just let me know. In the future, CSW PHP will be a modular package. You'll be able to download the core PHP package, and add extensions as you wish - if you want to add MySQL support for instance, you'd just pkg-get -i php4_mysql. I'm working on this at the moment - it works well, but there are several issues that need to be resolved before it's ready for general release. In the meantime, if your SysAdmin would like a particular module added to the CSW build of PHP, just drop me a line (or raise a feature request via the bug tracker), and I'll do my best to get it added (FreeTDS and ODBC support are already on the wishlist, and will be forthcoming in the next release). (On Sparc hardware) In "gtodo" I can create new tasks but cannot delete them. I get the "Are you sure you want to remove...?" dialog but it does not delete (instead it changes "completed" flags back to not completed) Similarly, "Item" - "Remove completed items" do not delete anything. After marking tasks as "completed", they are back as incompleted after exiting and restaring the program. It looks like the program can add stuff to ~/.gtodo/todos but fails to edit it. I have tried it on different Solaris versions (Sparc). Posted a bug on Blastwave but Phil cannot reproduce it (on x86). When I tried it on Solaris x86, I can delete tasks but "Remove completed items" does not work. Can someone reproduce it to see if it is a software bug or some library conflict on our systems? If it is just bad software, it might be better to remove it from blastwave. I just did a full "pkg-get -u" to update everything and nothing changed. I would like to upgrade Evolution to version 2.2 using the Blastwave.org version but don't yet wish to upgrade Gnome to the Blastwave Gnome 2.8. I have previously used Blastwave's Evolution 2.0 and Gnome 2.8 under Solaris 9 with success. I have currently got a number of non graphical blastwave packages installed under Solaris 10 without problems. I shutdown Sun's Evolution using "evolution --force-shutdown" and backed up the ~/evolution and ~/.gconf/apps directories. I installed Evolution 2.2 using "pkg-get -i evolution" and the installation ran OK. I have no LD_LIBRARY_PATH at all and /opt/csw/bin is in my path (but after /usr/bin). I have not uninstalled Sun's Evolution 1.4.6. Quit does have the desired effect.) * - * - * - * What have I done wrong? Is it necessary to install Blastwave's Gnome 2.8 (if so why is it not a dependency) or can Evolution run successfully under Sun's Gnome 2.6? I did experiment with making /opt/csw/bin the first entry in my path but if I do that the Sun Gnome desktop misbehaves when I login. Restoring /usr/bin as the first item in the path restore's this desktop with no changes required and no apparent ill effects. Sun's Evolution 1.4.6 still works fine. Any help to get this working would be appreciated. I have backed up and deleted ~/.gconf/apps/evolution directory and tried Evo 2.2 with the same failure as before i.e. [ian at amazon ~]$/opt/csw/bin/evolution es menu class init evolution-shell-Message: Killing old version of evolution-data-server... (evolution:2116): e-error.c-WARNING **: No parent set, or default parent available for error dialog [ian at amazon ~]$ The next thing I did was to log in as root, backup and delete the entire ~/.gconf from my home directory, log back in as me and retry Evo 2.2. Same as above. Any suggestions as to what to try next? I haven't yet played with /etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults/apps/evolution and subdirectories but could that affect this? If I get this wrong though I could render the whole system unusable. The frustrating thing is I had Evo 2 running under Solaris 9. Now I'm stuck with 1.4.6. Can anyone confirm they have Evo 2.2 running under Sun's Gnome 2.6 on Solaris 10? All help appreciated. I'm assuming the lack of further response means noone else is trying to do this under Solaris 10. After posing the same question on the Evolution users list, Michael Zucchi suggested the problem lies with the BONOBO_ACTIVATION_PATH. He is right but the solution isn't simple. I tried a number of options but none led to a running version of Evo 2.2.2. The real issue here is that Sun's Solaris 10 Gnome is built with a different gnome prefix (/usr) to the Blastwave.org Gnome (/opt/csw) therefore I don't believe it is possible for ANY Blastwave Gnome apps to run under Sun's Gnome. Maybe some simple ones will work but not anything using bonobo. Am I right? A second question then. Is the installation of the Blastwave.org Gnome 2.8 on a Solaris 10 system destructive to the Sun Gnome 2.6 in the same way as it was with Solaris 8 and Sun's Gnome 2, i.e. can they coexist? My guess is they cannot. If so, my only option will be to compile Evolution myself from source with the correct Gnome prefix. Prior to the installation, I had Realplayer 10 for solaris sparc (Nightly build 10.0.3.820) installed under Sun JDS and running well for local audio, video and streaming audio & video. Also Sun's Java media player worked fine for digital audio and video. Having installed CSWgnome the video works fine but both programs now generate very loud white noise from all digital audio sources. Sadly, this also happens under Sun JDS so the installation of CSWgnome has in some way trashed the Solaris digital audio system. Audio CDs will play using Gnome CD player (as expected using analog link) using either desktop. XMMS will play only with CD analog, not with digital audio extraction confirming my above suspicion. Using applications>Desktop Preferences>Advanced>Multimedia Systems Selector under CSWgnome, if either 'Test' button is pressed, Gstreamer dies with a "gstreamer-properties" has quit enexpectedly application error. I also have tried the Gnome Music Player and this immediately errors with "rhythmbox" has quit unexpectedly'. However if Rhythmbox is started from the command line using rhythmbox --no-registration i.e. bypassing missing bonobo server entry, it does bring up it's GUI but with lots of critical errors logged. I believe there should be a GNOME_Rhythmbox.server entry in the /opt/csw/lib/bonobo/servers folder. There seems to be no help built for this app in /opt/csw/share either. My guess is that CSWgstreamer could be one culprit. Can anyone confirm any of this behaviour and suggest any remedies? I didn't see any info about this. Etienne, In my own installations, I provide custom configuration files in a separate package, with one package package per application, or a "personality" package with configurations for multiple applications based on the server role (e.g. web server config package which installs apache/squid conf files plus some monitoring plugins I wrote). This package is usually installed in one of the final stages of a Jumpstart install. Using a configuration file package, you can either replace the existing squid and apache configurations altogether, or you can modify them using sed scripts. Of course, if a separate package is not desirable, there is nothing stopping you from: pkg-get -d blastwave_package gunzip blastwave_package.pkg.gz pkgadd -s /tmp/spool -d blastwave_package.pkg Then you can edit anything you need to and repackage. Going this route means you'd need to create a new custom package every time a new version of the application is released. This problem is not user related. I created two different test users, one using Solaris 10 JDS and one only using CSWgnome. Neither new user could use any digital audio application. The problem has to be system related and only happened when CSWgnome was installed. After researching a number of dead ends, I rebooted and the problem solved itself for all users and Gnome versions. Another thing: Which framebuffer do you use. Any chance you are using a Creator/Creator 3d? I have seen a bug in the Xserver which caused big visual problems with recent gtk-apps. You can try if you are affected by this bug by running /opt/csw/bin/same-gnome and and moving the mouse over the balls. If you get distorted graphics, you should patch your system. I believe herein lies the key. I wonder if Evo is finding the Sun 1.4.6 dataserver and giving up. It shouldn't if it was compiled correctly but the "Killing old version of evolution-data-server..." maybe a clue. Alex Moore has built a similar system to mine and confirmed my findings, i.e. Evolution 2.2.2 does not run under Solaris 10 JDS. Is there any example that I can look at of what you're referring to? It may be the answer to my request. What I want is to be able to upgrade easily any installation without having to reapply the minor modification that I made to the config (using simple switch as mod_ssl yes, mod_perl no and so on). If that's what you are able to do with your solution, I really want to use that solution. Thank you. I still have no idea what caused it. Its a wonderful media package (excellent audio and video support), except it no longer works for us. There seems to be a bug report filed for this already. The issue (I believe) is that the cswpostgres script is designed to be run as root, not postgres. It checks for various things, sets up the environment, and then switches to the postgres user before running the database server. Try becoming root (su,sudo, rbac etc.) and then running the script - it should then run without complaining. Message-ID: <20050429194104.C11A3F89E@mail.blastwave.org> Hi, I'm wondering if Blastwave still builds packages for Solaris 2.6 and 7. The CSWpkgget installs just fine on a Solaris 2.6 box, but on the default mirror (ibibilio), it's unable to download a catalog file. Is there another mirror I should be using? Or are Solaris 2.6 and 7 packages no longer built? It would be nice to put pkg-get on all of our old machines and not have to worry about installing the SMC packages.
