You can use 'gst-launch' and 'gst-inspect'. Check which sound plugin module GAIM is trying to use. I was thinking we could also switch GAIM in properties to use an older sound library like esd to fix that issue.

One of the problems is that the gaim developers decided to switch to 
gstreamer between betas. (From what I can see ..) The second is that I 
don't have a solaris box to test stuff on so I'm sorry this is taking so 
long.

Ken - Is there a command that can check on gstreamer running, its 
config, etc?
