I think I recall the same error on Friday:
/var/opt/csw/svc/method/svc-cswdbus: smf_is_nonglobalzone: not found

Or it might have been an errror/warning I saw when I installed dbus with 
pkg-get.

I have no zones other than the global zone. Or rather I didn't set any 
up unless the process of installing Solaris U7 installs other zones.

In addition to csw-dbus and csw-cups smf's not leaving *online at 
shutdown, wbem and gdm-2 were listed when I attemted to shut down

You can't search the description file in the current pkgutil.
Incidentally your search example just matched the catalog names, that
can be done with -a.

Hi All,

I've placed gitosis 0.2 (plus fixes to handle git 1.6) in testing.

Gitosis is a tool for hosting multiple git repositories easily and
securely using ssh keys for access control.  It is managed with git
and takes about 2 minutes to get up and going from this package.

You can point pkgutil at http://mirror.opencsw.org/opencsw/testing/
and install it easily if you're interested.

I'm pretty sure it's ready to roll, but feedback is welcome.

Hello CSW users,

This is a very important poll, for the future of X11 support in CSW
packages going forward.

We are faced with a tough technical decision to make.
While the implementation details are technical, the major impact is more
user based.
So, we are asking you, the users, to tell us what you would prefer!

For 6 years now, we have based virtually all our X11 dependant programs, on
the X11 libraries supplied by Solaris itself.

Unfortunately, the latest versions of gtk, which are required by the latest
versions of things like firefox, etc. require newer versions of basic
things like libX11 and so on, than older versions of Solaris provide.

We are obviously going to provide firefox. So we are also going to provide
the required libraries in one way or another.

The question then becomes; from this point on, do we have ALL X11 programs 
use the CSW X11 libraries?
Or do we have only the programs that "need" the new stuff, use the new
stuff in /opt/csw/X11, whereas others that are less fancy (ie: not gtk
based) use the sun libs in /usr/openwin/lib

So far, there is some inclination to no longer use the Sun libs.
This would mean that, if you still use some sun graphical programs, you
would potentially have a bit more redundancy in the shared library
department.

The "good news", is that it should only amount to around 4 megabytes of
extra ram used up this way, vs using sun X11 libraries. That's total
extra; it's a one-time hit, not a per-process cost.

Please let us know what you, our users, would prefer.

Hi all,

I have servers running NRPE (the nagios remote executor daemon),
almost all of which use version 2.12/2009-05-17 from opencsw (I also
have some linux boxes also, using 2.12 from the ubuntu repos).

Today I updated a couple of boxes, picking up 2.12/2009-06-18 along
the way. Subsequently I found that any box running 05-17 could not
communicate with one running 06-18, and vice versa. In each case, the
server would report

[ID 261363 daemon.error] Error: Request packet had invalid CRC32.
[ID 900267 daemon.error] Client request was invalid, bailing out...

and the client would report

CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon.  Check the remote server
logs for error messages.

Boxes running 06-18 could communicate with each other fine, though, as
could all the others

I remember an error similar to this when upgrading from NRPE 1 to NRPE
2, but it doesn't seem as if a minor version upgrade (indeed, no
upgrade at all as far as the app version number (2.12) is concerned)
should have such a severe effect.

If I simply replace the /opt/csw/bin/nrpe binary with the one from
05-17 and restart the service, everything works OK again.

Does anyone else see this behaviour? Any ideas what I can do to track
it down an isolate it? Upgrading everything to the 06-18 version isn't
really an option, as it doesn't work with my linux nodes.

due to several user requests I recompiled the the NRPE packages, so that  
agent and plugin can send / receive network packets with a size of 8 kB.  
Obviously this not compatible to former versions.

As a quick workaround I could send you packages compiled for a packet size  
of 1 kB (as it was in the version 2009-05-17).

postinstall: anomaly : cannot change ownership for include directory!

and this is because a link is badly created during the install:

Yes, its possible. There is a bug report about this and a palliative... I
planned an upgrade of gcc3 but never found the time to do it; maybe the
slower months of summer... BTW, you can use gcc4 which, I hope, doesn't
have this issue.

This is because libcairo has a dependency to libsrvg (?) and that one
depends on libcairo so a cyclic dependency is present in the catalog
right now, it is being fixed with a new libcairo released today.

I have also added a simple protection for this in pkgutil so it
doesn't loop forever in these cases. You can replace
/opt/csw/bin/pkgutil with the below if you want to try it:

It can't solve the cyclic dependency, it just stops when recursing
like crazy so not to exhaust the memory while still not achieving
anything.

i'm using CSWpidgin (2.5.5), and since 2 weeks, i am unable to connect 
with my yahoo account. I verified that my account is correct, going to 
the web http://fr.web.im, and it's working, so the problem is with 
pidgin. All other protocols are still ok (irc, hotmail, googletalk,...).
The problem is that pidgin just dislays "Available - connecting..." but 
it never connects
anybody else has the problem?

This is a problem with pidgin.  it is however fixed with 2.5.7 release.

I have filed a bug to upgrade with the maintainer.

For reference, the bug entry can be found in our bugtracker [1]. In the
meantime you might want to try the workaround that is mentioned halfway
down in the related pidgin bugtracker entry [2]: Manually select
66.163.181.167 (cs102.msg.mud.yahoo.com) as your server. I am not sure
whether it still works, but it's worth a try.

I have talked to Chad about this already, and I will push out the new version
of pidgin once GTK has been released.  should be in the next few days.

I am currently testing version 2.5.7 against the version of gtk in testing.

I think I recall the same error on Friday:
/var/opt/csw/svc/method/svc-cswdbus: smf_is_nonglobalzone: not found

Or it might have been an errror/warning I saw when I installed dbus with 
pkg-get.

I have no zones other than the global zone. Or rather I didn't set any 
up unless the process of installing Solaris U7 installs other zones.

You can't search the description file in the current pkgutil.
Incidentally your search example just matched the catalog names, that
can be done with -a.

# pkgutil -a otr

I've placed gitosis 0.2 (plus fixes to handle git 1.6) in testing.

Gitosis is a tool for hosting multiple git repositories easily and
securely using ssh keys for access control.  It is managed with git

I'm pretty sure it's ready to roll, but feedback is welcome.

Hello CSW users,

This is a very important poll, for the future of X11 support in CSW
packages going forward.

We are faced with a tough technical decision to make.
While the implementation details are technical, the major impact is more
user based.
So, we are asking you, the users, to tell us what you would prefer!

For 6 years now, we have based virtually all our X11 dependant programs, on
the X11 libraries supplied by Solaris itself.

Unfortunately, the latest versions of gtk, which are required by the latest
versions of things like firefox, etc. require newer versions of basic
things like libX11 and so on, than older versions of Solaris provide.

We are obviously going to provide firefox. So we are also going to provide
the required libraries in one way or another.

The question then becomes; from this point on, do we have ALL X11 programs 
use the CSW X11 libraries?
Or do we have only the programs that "need" the new stuff, use the new
stuff in /opt/csw/X11, whereas others that are less fancy (ie: not gtk
based) use the sun libs in /usr/openwin/lib

So far, there is some inclination to no longer use the Sun libs.
This would mean that, if you still use some sun graphical programs, you
would potentially have a bit more redundancy in the shared library
department.

The "good news", is that it should only amount to around 4 megabytes of
extra ram used up this way, vs using sun X11 libraries. That's total
extra; it's a one-time hit, not a per-process cost.

Please let us know what you, our users, would prefer.

Hi All,

I've placed updated package for git in testing.  This is a version
bump (1.6.3 -> 1.6.3.2), but it also addresses CVE-2009-2108, which is
a DoS against git-daemon:

You can point pkg-get or pkgutil at

Hi all,

I have servers running NRPE (the nagios remote executor daemon),
almost all of which use version 2.12/2009-05-17 from opencsw (I also
have some linux boxes also, using 2.12 from the ubuntu repos).

Today I updated a couple of boxes, picking up 2.12/2009-06-18 along
the way. Subsequently I found that any box running 05-17 could not
communicate with one running 06-18, and vice versa. In each case, the
server would report

[ID 261363 daemon.error] Error: Request packet had invalid CRC32.
[ID 900267 daemon.error] Client request was invalid, bailing out...

and the client would report

CHECK_NRPE: Received 0 bytes from daemon.  Check the remote server
logs for error messages.

Boxes running 06-18 could communicate with each other fine, though, as
could all the others

I remember an error similar to this when upgrading from NRPE 1 to NRPE
2, but it doesn't seem as if a minor version upgrade (indeed, no
upgrade at all as far as the app version number (2.12) is concerned)
should have such a severe effect.

If I simply replace the /opt/csw/bin/nrpe binary with the one from
05-17 and restart the service, everything works OK again.

Does anyone else see this behaviour? Any ideas what I can do to track
it down an isolate it? Upgrading everything to the 06-18 version isn't
really an option, as it doesn't work with my linux nodes.

due to several user requests I recompiled the the NRPE packages, so that  
agent and plugin can send / receive network packets with a size of 8 kB.  
Obviously this not compatible to former versions.

As a quick workaround I could send you packages compiled for a packet size  
of 1 kB (as it was in the version 2009-05-17).

Installation of <CSWgcc3core> failed.

the log contains:
chown: X11: No such file or directory
postinstall: anomaly : cannot change ownership for include directory!

and this is because a link is badly created during the install:
calypso-root% ls -lsd 
/opt/csw/gcc3/lib/gcc/sparc-sun-solaris2.8/3.4.5/include/X11
    2 lrwxrwxrwx   1 root     other         34 Jun 23 09:49

it should be:

Yes, its possible. There is a bug report about this and a palliative... I
planned an upgrade of gcc3 but never found the time to do it; maybe the
slower months of summer... BTW, you can use gcc4 which, I hope, doesn't
have this issue.

gcc4 isn't a solution
- in http://opencsw.org/bugtrack/view.php?id=2810, i don't know how to 
fix pkgmap, because it doesn't contain ../include/X11!?

This is because libcairo has a dependency to libsrvg (?) and that one
depends on libcairo so a cyclic dependency is present in the catalog
right now, it is being fixed with a new libcairo released today.

I have also added a simple protection for this in pkgutil so it
doesn't loop forever in these cases. You can replace
/opt/csw/bin/pkgutil with the below if you want to try it:

It can't solve the cyclic dependency, it just stops when recursing
like crazy so not to exhaust the memory while still not achieving
anything.

hello all,
i'm using CSWpidgin (2.5.5), and since 2 weeks, i am unable to connect 
with my yahoo account. I verified that my account is correct, going to 
the web http://fr.web.im, and it's working, so the problem is with 
pidgin. All other protocols are still ok (irc, hotmail, googletalk,...).
The problem is that pidgin just dislays "Available - connecting..." but 
it never connects
anybody else has the problem?

This is a problem with pidgin.  it is however fixed with 2.5.7 release.

I have filed a bug to upgrade with the maintainer.

For reference, the bug entry can be found in our bugtracker [1]. In the
meantime you might want to try the workaround that is mentioned halfway
down in the related pidgin bugtracker entry [2]: Manually select
66.163.181.167 (cs102.msg.mud.yahoo.com) as your server. I am not sure
whether it still works, but it's worth a try.

I have talked to Chad about this already, and I will push out the new version
of pidgin once GTK has been released.  should be in the next few days.

I am currently testing version 2.5.7 against the version of gtk in testing.
