BTW, I had the following error despite the PATH redefinition:

yann at current9s:~/mgar/openssl/trunk$ gmake platforms
gmake GAR_PLATFORM=solaris9-sparc _package &&      ssh -t current9x
"PATH=$PATH:/opt/csw/bin gmake -C /home/yann/mgar/openssl/trunk
GAR_PLATFORM=solaris9-i386 _package" &&   true
[...]
zsh: command not found: gmake
Connection to current9x closed.
gmake: *** [platforms] Error 1
