If the problem is NFS performance, then you can build a locate database on the NFS server and have the clients all search that by using LOCATEPATH (as long as all the clients mount the exported filesystem in the same place). Then you just add nfs to the list of filesystems updatedb doesn't search. See section 2.9.2 of http://pubs.opengroup.org/onlinepubs/009695399/utilities/xcu_chap02.html It looks like the ultimate problem is that the source distribution hard-codes the interpreter: $ head -n1 locate/updatedb.sh #! /bin/sh In other words, findutils assumes /bin/sh is POSIX-compliant. If that's not true on your systems, you will need to path that I think. Lack of mktemp is trickier. The alternatives mechanism has registered the symlinks in the right locations and alternatives --display neon and alternatives --display sudo work as expected. After zone creation, I have to manually force the alternatives mechanism to install the needed symlinks by running a shell loop: for d in `ls /opt/csw/share/alternatives`; do alt=`basename $d`; alternatives --auto $alt; done Note that if I uninstall CSWsudo inside the zone and then re-install it, the alternatives mechanism works as expected. Tracing through the "zoneadm install" command it appears that the CAS used by alternatives does not result in a persistent file. I'll not pretend to be an expert here, as I'm merely a hack, but I believe the i.cswalternative command should use the "installf" command to register this symlink with the system. When I look in the /var/sadm/install/contents file I do not see an entry for /opt/csw/bin/sudo file. My reading of the package developer guide leads me to believe files delivered by a package must either by declared statically in the pkgmap or dynamically via installf. I suspect that the zoneadm install process is removing / disallowing the creation of this file as it isn't/wasn't properly registered. I'll continue to hack away at a solution but I thought someone more familiar with packaging might resolve this issue sooner. The net effect is that packages installed from the global zone during the zoneadm install process will not have their alternatives symlink created. The one problem with that, is that when the "alternatives" package gets upgraded, the symlinks would get removed, and thus "lose" preferences, I think. To preserve preferences, you have to have something of persistance, outside of what is registered in the package database. Currently, the symlinks themselves serve as that, but only if they are not registered. I'll try to get around to implemeting the "relink-all" option soon though. Is there a specific reason why you don't want to use the wxwidget-version? As previously there was only one version the splitting in one without X11 and one with wxwidgets is IMHO not really a regression. However, I will take a look at how many additional dependencies result in a simple x11 dependency for the base package. I checked, and gnuplot didn't work anymore (as the update migrated to the non-x11 version)." Of course one could switch to the full-blown version, but apparently that needs active intervention by the admin (I guess that my admin just went with whatever was default for the update). Actually, although I am annoyed by the wx terminal popping up per default instead of the x11 one, I would be fine with CSW just featuring the full-blown build, including functionality as upstream adds it. The separation was because of the increased list of dependencies. Well, for the plain x11 terminal, you would just have the dependencies of the old gnuplot package. It's rather basic libx11 stuff. No fancy toolkit involved. If you really want to keep the strict separation between GUI and non-GUI, I will have to ask my admin to install the full version. Of course that's a solution. Other people being surprised by the upgrade switching off the x11 terminal would have to investigate the matter just like I did... Another solution would be to shape the update path so that the full gnuplot version is the default successor of the old gnuplot package --- it's always nicer to users to add functionality that one can later disable than the other way round. I have a global zone with CSW alternatives, CSWneon, CSWsudo, and CSWsudo-common installed. The alternatives mechanism has registered the symlinks in the right locations and alternatives --display neon and alternatives --display sudo work as expected. If I then create a new non-global zone with the default inherited paths (your typical sparse-root zone), alternatives --display whatever shows the correct paths listed, but the symlinks are not there. It's only upon initial zone creation that the alternatives symlinks do not get created. ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (0009074) jcraig (developer) - 2011-05-25 15:09 https://www.opencsw.org/mantis/view.php?id=4538#c9074 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- An elegant fix to this would be to have the "alternatives" binary use installf/removef to manage the symlink and register the link to the CSWalternatives package. This would keep a valid reference in place as the preference is changed and resolve package installation issues during zone installs. I tested this by calling installf for the sudo link and then installing a new whole root zone. Once installed, the sudo link existed. As alternatives are implemented now, and given the statement that the only supported zone implementation is a sparse CSW design, an end user gets one and only one choice between alternatives for every zone on a particular box. This level of support is too narrow, in my opinion. So the option would be useful but does not work as expected. ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (0009081) jay (reporter) - 2011-05-26 01:38 https://www.opencsw.org/mantis/view.php?id=4682#c9081 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Yes. If access(2) says the file is executable, then the -executable test correctly returns true. From the find documentation: -executable Matches files which are executable and directories which are searchable (in a file name resolution sense). This takes into account access control lists and other permissions artefacts which the -perm test ignores. This test makes use of the access(2) system call, and so can be fooled by NFS servers which do UID mapping (or root-squashing), since many systems implement access(2) in the client's kernel and so cannot make use of the UID mapping information held on the server. Because this test is based only on the result of the access(2) system call, there is no guarantee that a file for which this test succeeds can actually be executed. I read the man page in the first place but never expected that the syscall could be the source. >From access(2): If any access permissions are to be checked, each will be checked individually, as described in intro(2). Description: The old version of gnuplot had the simple X11 terminal builtin, and that is a very useful one for previewing plots, or scripting gnuplot for live display. In any case, it was a feature that was present and is now missing after a CSW update. I understand that there is the more advanced X11/WxWidgets interactive terminal and that for that there is a separate package now, but I don't need that one (it's rather slow and overkill for my uses). Would you please restore the functionality of the gnuplot package to include the normal old-style x11 terminal? As it is now, the recent update is a serious regression for users that actually use gnuplot themselves (or a tool that uses gnuplot's x11 terminal for live display). I hope there is no new packaging policy that forbids basic X11 libs as dependency for the normal package... ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (0009085) Thomas Orgis (reporter) - 2011-05-27 10:05 https://www.opencsw.org/mantis/view.php?id=4773#c9085 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Looks fine here, thanks! Given the lack of documentation for this file format it is reasonable that one would assume the unix norm of one or more spaces between fields. On fix for this would be: check=`egrep -l "^[^ ]* [ ]*$1 [ ]*$2 " $PRIORITIESDIR/*` As an alternative you may wish to also add support for tab separators. Man page / documentation would be appreciated. I chose to submit this as a alternatives bug rather than a sudo* bug because I believe alternatives should support this functionality. ====================================================================== ---------------------------------------------------------------------- (0009097) phil (manager) - 2011-05-31 23:48 https://www.opencsw.org/mantis/view.php?id=4774#c9097 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- No feedback recieved. releasing new package, rather than waiting indefinately.
