I am creating csw package for CSQL main memory database management system. This
is my first package creation experience.. I have put the package under the

It is created on solaris 10 as it uses atomic compare and swap which is
supported only in solaris 10.
Can somebody test this( as i do not have root access) and let me know your
comments.

the buildfarm seems to be suffering again from poor IO performance.

My ack tests that usually take about 1 minute max have been running for
about half an hour now on build8x. asvc_t for my NFS mounted home (as
seen in "iostat -xnc 30") was about 1500 ms. Running "mkfile 10m
~/tmp/foobar" just now for testing purposes even gave me a wsvc_t of
60749.4.

Any idea what is killing the IO here? Is there a known IO bottleneck
during a certain time of the day due to backups? Apart from the last
time when Ihsan mailed, i had not experienced such wait times before.

It's caused by too many people doing IO stress tests.  Please log out
and let people do work :-)

The poor performance is caused by the machine is being used.  I'm
building OpenOffice.org 3.1.  Peter is building gcc3 and William is/has
been building FF3.

We've been looking at it for several days now and can't see an obvious
problem other than it can't cope with load.  The farcical situation
where the machine had excellent performance except under load.  The
only conclusion I have is Solaris can't apportion IO under load.


I've run the same build on pandora and will compare timings.


We ought to arrange the build discs in a RAID 0 system for speed.
I'm not sure how we have them now but I expect they are mirrored
for safety.  Build is ephemeral and needs speed.

CPU states: 15.2% idle, 22.4% user, 62.4% kernel,  0.0% iowait,  0.0% swap
Kernel: 1941 ctxsw, 5818 trap, 1081 intr, 5531 syscall, 6 fork, 5565 flt
Memory: 1500M phys mem, 1322M free mem, 1024M total swap, 954M free swap

   PID USERNAME LWP PRI NICE  SIZE   RES STATE    TIME    CPU COMMAND
   173 root       5  58    0 4140K 1728K sleep   14:58  0.00% automountd
   283 root      12  50    0 1980K  668K sleep   10:02  0.00% mibiisa
[snip]

Kernel load is always between 50% and as high as 75%.

I can only update it after it has been released. It could be
installed on *t, but you cannot make a releasable package there.

When I release ldns, it could break drill. To avoid this, I would like
to release it together with ldns.

Hi Maciej,

I checked with Dago, who has limited connectivity right now about this
and he ok'd it.  (They aren't my boxes to make this call on.)  You're
now in group wheel on build8{s,x}t which has full sudo access.

You should be able to do the package testing that you need to do now.

are you working on updating sendmail? Benny has spent the last hour with
building an updated package on our local build farm and from his random
mumblings (he is sitting next to me) it seems as if he is almost there by
now.

Might make sense to join forces. He is on #opencsw right now.
