Searching the Internets(TM) reveals that there are multiple complaints
about this problem in autoconf-2.66.

Dago has committed a patch for autoconf:
http://sourceforge.net/apps/trac/gar/changeset/10581

Would it be possible to fix it by hand on current9x?
