Indeed, you could use

EXTRA_CONFIGURE_EXPORTS += XGETTEXT MSGMERGE MSGFMT
CONFIGURE_ENV_XGETTEXT = /opt/csw/gnu/xgettext
CONFIGURE_ENV_MSGMERGE = /opt/csw/gnu/msgmerge
CONFIGURE_ENV_MSGFMT = /opt/csw/gnu/msgfmt
