or, if we wanted to be completely consistent, 
by a user setting JAVA_HOME, PATH, etc to

/opt/csw/java/someversion

perhaps have
/opt/csw/java/default/bin -> ../{VERSION}/bin

and so forth, so that /opt/csw/java only contains version subdirectories
directly


or having /opt/csw/java/default itself be a symlink to a specific
 version dir.

(That's actually what they do at USC a lot. Seems to be appropriate
 in this case, maybe  )
