I know baseline is solaris 9 but solaris 8 is "best effort", but when will we
drop the "best attempt"? I think we should leave everything as-is unless we
are no longer going to create packages specifically for solaris 8.
I suggest the following.
as we roll out new versions of the packages, no longer attempt solaris 8
compile. compile for solaris 9+ only.
Freeze the existing solaris 8 software catalog and keep for those users that
want to run solaris 8 unsupported by sun. if the users want an upgrade to the
software in the solaris 8 catalog, they can fill a bug report or request on the
mailing list and we will apply the "best effort" to create that package and
update the catalog.
