[csw-maintainers] subversion-1.5.6 builds - but then ... perl ?

hi,

tried to build subversion-1.5.6. commented javahl, until somebody
really needs it, and asked on the subversion tigris list for the
compile error we all hit. and i am wondering:
1. is it normal to get these 50 or so protection override questions?
coudl one avoid it?
2. how does one prevent this error:
