i'm not sure that that serves any useful purpose, other than /opt/csw/bin/php
I think adding the symlink, effectively accomplishes "moving php5 into
the normal namespace"

Methinks that any auto-detect stuff will most likely invoke "php (some
command" to determine location and flags for things.
