There is also the mgar package, which I highly recommend.

It was recently impossible to run checkpkg in an off-buildfarm
setting.  Last week was a bugfix week for checkpkg, thanks to Igor who
attacked and didn't let go until checkpkg was working.  Currently,
checkpkg will work off-buildfarm if CATALOG_RELEASE is set to current
or unstable in your ~/.garrc.  I will send a separate, more detailed
update to the list later in the week.
