That is "network grep" and is in no way a replacement for any normal
grep.

Most gnu packages don't have a g prefix in the catalog, and
catalogname != pkgname is generally and especially here really bad.
Even after two years I can't remember it :-( So, no, "it has always
been this way is not an argument.
