These bugs make MIT Kerberos vulnerable to a denial of service attack and to remote code execution. Both the KDC server as well as arbitrary Kerberos-enabled services are affected. The MIT Kerberos team has released official patches for version 1.4.1, and the bugfixes will also be included in the forthcoming 1.4.2 release. I have already repackaged MIT Kerberos with the patched versions, and the new packages should be distributed to the mirrors when they next sync. It is recommended that all Blastwave sites using MIT Kerberos immediately upgrade the CSWkrb5adminserver, CSWkrb5kdc, CSWkrb5lib, CSWkrb5libdev and CSWkrb5user packages. The bugs have been filed with the MITRE Common Vulnerabilities and Exposures (CVE) database as CAN-2005-1174, CAN-2005-1175 and CAN-2005-1689. MIT has released Kerberos Security Advisories 2005-002 and 2005-003 with more information. See http://web.mit.edu/kerberos/www/advisories/ for more information on the vulnerabilities. While I was looking, I found that I did not have access to contract content either. I should, so I will contact my vendor. One document that I saw should be public access and it stated a similar problem to yours. The answer was to restore the corrupted file /var/sadm/install/contents from a known good backup or reinstall. Not really a good answer, but if you have a backup, I would try that first. In that document, the cause of the corrupted file was unknown. There may be more information available, so hopefully some one else will reply. Now I know what the problem caused: I tried to use the 30-day-test-plan (with key "up-promo", seeing on the website from sun) and after that I installed all patches it hungs on the last patch and I had to kill the session. And I think this was the last action I did before the error in csw happened. Now I can also answer my own question, why the update manager is not working... You've run into an additional problem which needs sorting first: # rm -r /var/pkg-get/downloads # pkgrm CSWpkgget # wget http://ibiblio.org/pub/packages/solaris/csw/stable/sparc/5.8/pkg _get-3.3.1-all-CSW.pkg # pkgadd -d pkg_get-3.3.1-all-CSW.pkg # rm pkg_get-3.3.1-all-CSW.pkg That's pkg-get done, now you need a lower version of fontconfig. pkg-get can't downgrade versions so you have to manually remove fontconfig then install again: # pkgrm CSWfconfig # pkg-get -U -i fontconfig and that's fontconfig restored. Test for others that need manual downgrade by updating all and look for a warning message: # pkg-get -u ... ERROR: remote version older than current version. ... pkgrm them and reinstall. When I went to java.com and tried to download the java it would alway be corrupted if I downloaded it with Firefox. So I used NetScape. This wasn't corrupted, but when I tried to install the plugins with symlinks it didn't work and FireFox would not run at all. Since when FireFox had started up previously it complained of not finding a libjavaplugin something or other in /opt/csw/lib/sparc I tried symlinking and copying it there. Since none of that worked I decided I should delete it with 'rm libj*'. This is of course what is way too stoopid to display in a subject. I know I deleted a mess of libjpeg* libraries, etc. Questions I need answered: 1. How to I figure out what apps are now missing libraries that started with libj? 2. How can I force a reinstall -- it seems that 'pkg-get -f install vncviewer' will just tell me the package is already intalled; I was hoping force would make the program just do what I told it regardless how stupid it was. (Maybe the way I've been working lately it is not a bad thing that it doesn't). 3. Typically the Sun java installs under /usr/j2se so see if you have: /usr/j2se/jre/plugin/sparc/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so If not, install J2SE from the Sun site http://java.sun.com. Then, make the following symbolic link: cd /opt/csw/libexec/firefox/plugins ln -s /usr/j2se/jre/plugin/sparc/ns610/libjavaplugin_oji.so Restart firefox and java should be working. That should work. Also look at these rsync options: --exclude to be selective --delete to delete the old files. James. Now, I've installed a newer version of openoffice, but the program menu still links to the old version. I can't figure out how to update the program menu? The "MenuEditor" does not seem to do what I want.. it has an "---include--- system" statment, and I don't know how that is generated. Any suggestions?
