If it helps any, one of the reasons we're looking at using blastwave
packages is precisely the same problems you're having: it just takes too
dang long for the 10 staff members or so that we have (all of whom have
other very real important things to do as well) to rebuild everything,
particularly anything like gtk / gnome applications.
