Down grade is not supported and -S is inherently risky.  Make sure
you have cleaned out the newer gnome, any ~/.gnome like directories,
thumbnail caches, perhaps in /opt/csw.  Look for stray gconf
processes, these hang round longer hang they ought. Etc...
