I have a Profile OU, if that's what you mean, but thus far I haven't
used it. I ran "ldapclient manual", ie.
/usr/sbin/ldapclient -v manual \
        -a domainName=mdibl.org \
        -a credentialLevel=proxy \
        -a defaultSearchBase=dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a proxyDN=cn=proxyagent,ou=profile,dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a proxyPassword=******** \
        -a authenticationMethod=tls:simple \
        -a bindTimeLimit=2 \
        -a serviceSearchDescriptor=passwd:ou=People,dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a serviceSearchDescriptor=group:ou=group,dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a serviceSearchDescriptor=shadow:ou=People,dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a serviceSearchDescriptor=netgroup:ou=netgroup,dc=mdibl,dc=org \
        -a defaultServerList=testbed.mdibl.org

Other entries (passwd, group, etc) may exist in files, ldap or both.
nsswitch.conf says:
passwd: files ldap
group: files ldap
hosts: files dns
ipnodes: files
networks: files
protocols: files
rpc: files
ethers: files
netmasks: files
bootparams: files
publickey: files
netgroup: ldap
automount: files ldap [TRYAGAIN=return]
aliases: ldap [TRYAGAIN=return] files
services: files
sendmailvars: files
printers: files
auth_attr: files
prof_attr: files
project: files
