Just curious - why not go to Gnome 2.18 directly, if
the
focus is to have a modern GNOME desktop?

Alex,

Well... good question there!

I've actually started on GNOME 2.18.x packaging. GNOME
2.16.3 review is done so I wanted to push that out
first. ;o>
