But, if there are issues, please report them upstream; I'll manage only the packaging side. To install this package, you need to remove all dependent packages and Emacs 21.4 itself; after that, you install, using pkgadd, the CVS Emacs corresponding to your architecture and, if you're a TeX user, the nifty AucTex package. Note that this version includes the successors of: oortgnus and emacscalc, available as Blastwave packages, and many other, previously separate, packages --- e.g., tramp. Solaris in general frowns on static libraries, (as should most systems, IMO). I do not know if the above are "basic libraries", but I have three (3) wxWidgets installs on this system currently: CSW, another third-party's, and a homebrew. None of them include static libs, or image or zlib libs, and I have no problem building against them. I've never tried to build "kicad", but since it is trying to link non-existant libraries (according to a quick package search on blastwave.org) , I would blame a broken "configure" script and/or Makefile. > Does anyone know how to workaround these errors? You will probably fail with gcc because WxWidgets is CC compiled, (I assume the API is not pure C). CC requires a few hacks to the ggcisms, eg, casts, typeof(), stray commas. Another problem, it's asking for a GL enabled WxWidgets. Try WxWidgets configure with --with-opengl. 2.8.0 is due. Alessio? James. I'll expand that some more... The makefile has: ifdef KICAD_STATIC_LINK It's not the default, don't select and you don't need static libs. As Eric rightly mentions dynamic libs are the preferred method. We don't need static libs. Read the makefile further and the static build expects libGLU.a. I'm not as kind as Alessio and if you ask for it will just tell you to dynamically link. There is actually a good reason for using the dynamic mesa GL. /opt/csw/lib/libGL.so has the auxiliary flag set so hardware GL can be used when available. $ dump -Lv /opt/csw/lib/libGL.so | grep AUX [17] AUXILIARY /usr/lib/libGL.so James. Alessio? wxwidgets 2.8 are already ready (without static libs and without with- opengl) on /testing since dec 20th, waiting for the stable freeze to be over. as far as i remember the static libs were removed 'cause they contained local paths (and i was unable to fix this, plus the static libs were unuseful so a quick fix was to just remove them, as done with other packages too...) Me being a Mechanical Engineer, have great difficulty in compiling programs. Not to say I don't get any working. My main program I use for CAD is Pro-Engineer (on Solaris Sparc and X64). Now I'm coming up where I need to do some small PCB work, I'm not ready to dish out another $20,000 for Mentor. I've used PCB from CSW, it has some major shortcomings, like your base PCB can only be square or rectangular. I've tried compiling both Kicad with gcc and SS and WxWidgets with both gcc and SS. Each way I had a different set of problems, besides the basic -mt and -Wall ones. With Kicad (the latest release candidate), I've had static linking on and off. For me, the cleanest compile was with gcc (4) from CSW and static linking on with my errors posted earlier. Is there any way of sharing your Sparc binaries? The dependencies I can work out. It was something like /opt/csw/libexec/firefox/lib/firefox-version ) Kind regards William -- William http://www.wbonnet.net http://www.sunwizard.net Le site fran?ais des amateurs de stations Unix http://www.blastwave.org An OpenSolaris Community Site http://www.guses.org French speaking Solaris User Group From admin at testedgeinc.com Wed Jan 10 17:12:18 2007 From: admin at testedgeinc.com (Gary Armstrong) Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2007 08:12:18 -0800 Subject: [csw-users] firefox - segmentation fault In-Reply-To: <45A422DC.1070603@wbonnet.net> References: <432280.57497.qm@web33612.mail.mud.yahoo.com> <34922.24.146.17.108.1167901288.squirrel@mail.blastwave.org> <45A3D83D.70909@testedgeinc.com> <45A422DC.1070603@wbonnet.net> Message-ID: <45A51062.7060109@testedgeinc.com> William Bonnet wrote: > Hi Gary > >> Thunderbird and seamonkey seem to be ok. Could you please check the content of your ~/.mozilla directory ? You may have some extensions installed as a user which are not compatible ? Maybe you can try to backup first (always backup ;) ) and rename the .mozilla to something else, and let firefox recreate it ? After the test you can delete the freshly created dir and restore the old .mozilla dir. Please be sure to quit all mozilla apps before renaming the .mozilla directory Kind regards, William -- William http://www.wbonnet.net http://www.sunwizard.net Le site fran?ais des amateurs de stations Unix http://www.blastwave.org An OpenSolaris Community Site http://www.guses.org French speaking Solaris User Group From admin at testedgeinc.com Wed Jan 10 18:54:14 2007 From: admin at testedgeinc.com (Gary Armstrong) Date: Wed, 10 Jan 2007 09:54:14 -0800 Subject: [csw-users] firefox - segmentation fault In-Reply-To: <20070110.16310900.1227006136@gyor.asd.demon.co.uk> References: <20070109202241.87757.qmail@web33615.mail.mud.yahoo.com> <45A411B5.2040408@testedgeinc.com> <20070110.16310900.1227006136@gyor.asd.demon.co.uk> Message-ID: <45A52846.8000107@testedgeinc.com> James Lee wrote: > On 09/01/07, 22:05:41, Gary Armstrong wrote > regarding Re: [csw-users] firefox - segmentation fault: > > >> It hasn't come up since the upgrade. Firefox is loading a couple of tabs when it goes. It happens shortly after I answer the default browser pop-up. I've tried both yes and no, it still faults. I'm not a good tea leaf reader, so it's not surprising the truss -f doesn't help me. Hopefully I've snipped the most relevant lines. Message-ID: <010601c73a6d$d2a73c10$83b328c0@visionael.com> We've noticed a problem in porting our web app to support firefox - specifically firefox when run on solaris. The app uses svg with embedded .gif files in it for some things. The GIF files display just fine in the blastwave firefox when loaded as a .gif, however when embedded in the simplest svg the color pallete goes all wonky (technicolor). This does not happen when firefox is on either linux or windows. We have tried running it directly on the soloaris box with attached keyboard and graphics card and we've also tried it with remote XServers but in all cases the symptom is the same. Based on my half - paying attention to some of the stuff that goes through this list I'm beginning to wonder if maybe its due to a way firefox was compiled? So can anyone tell me 1: Does the solaris version of firefox link to cairo or is it using an older graphics mechanism? 2: what version of cairo? 3: Is there anything anyone can think of that would cause the svg/gif interaction? I can probably make the svg and a test gif available if anyone wants to take a gander at the issue. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... However, I need to add some items for Solaris 10. On Solaris 10, also run inetconv after the entry is added to /etc/inetd.conf. Then use `inetadm -d` to disable the services and `inetadm -e` to enable the services. When fam is configured and running properly, you should get the following output from rpcinfo. This problem has in fact been tracked down to be caused by libgcrypt.so. libgcrypt's 'configure' script assumes that Solaris doesn't have /dev/urandom, so it always uses /dev/random. CUPS, in turn, uses libgcrypt.so so set up encrypted connections. Therefore, CUPS was always using /dev/random as well. So, whenever there wasn't enough entropy in the pool to satify the read from /dev/random, the call would block till the entropy pool had been re-filled, leading to the 'CUPS is so freaking slow' behavior you and others have described. Torrey, the maintainer for libgcrypt, was so kind to build a new packages within half an hour of me telling him what the problem was. These packages are currently available from http://www.blastwave.org/testing/libgcrypt-1.2.3,REV=2007.01.21-SunOS5.8-i386-CSW.pkg.gz http://www.blastwave.org/testing/libgcrypt-1.2.3,REV=2007.01.21-SunOS5.8-sparc-CSW.pkg.gz Installing the new libcrypt package from testing should make the slow-CUPS symptoms go away. I don't think there's a document that specifically describes the Blastwave package of apache2. However, any apache2/SSL document should contain the right pointers. All that should be different for the Blastwave case are paths (Apache2 lives under /opt/csw/apache2). The necessary module, mod_ssl.so, comes with CSWapache2c, which is the Apache 2 core package. So, if you run pkg-get -i apache2 you'll get everything you need. How to start it depends on the Solaris version you have (/etc/init.d/cswapache2 for Solaris 8 & 9, svcadm ... cswapache2 for Solaris 10). The general Apache config is in /opt/csw/apache2/etc/httpd.conf, but the setup for optional components (such as SSL) are in separate files under /opt/csw/apache2/etc/extra. In order to use one of the optional components, you'll need to uncomment the appropriate Include directive at the end of the httpd.conf file, then edit the correct file (e.g. httpd-ssl.conf) under the "extra" directory. To start Apache with SSL enabled, run "/etc/init.d/cswapache2 startssl". The important news about this release is the fact that libgphoto2 now supports USB cameras -- under Solaris >= 10. The reason to have separate packages for Solaris 8 and Solaris 10 is said USB support. Solaris 8 doesn't have libusb, thus USB support is disabled in the Solaris 8 package (this is similar to the previous version of libgphoto2). The Solaris 10 package, however, has USB support enabled and links against /usr/sfw/lib/libusb.so. The package SUNWlibusb is not listed as dependency, as libgphoto2 will still work if libusb is not present. However, without libusb, one loses support for USB cameras. There is no separate Solaris 10 package for gphoto2 itself. There is no need for such a package, since all USB functionality resides in libgphoto2. I have tested the packages myself on an Ultra 60 running Solaris 10. I was able to successfully download pictures from a Canon PowerShot G1 and a Canon PowerShot S50. I would be very interested to hear if other cameras and the x86 library work just as well. Please see [1] for more information about how to set up USB cameras under Solaris. AMD64 support from Blastwave is coming but we need supporting libraries built before the larger projects like mysql can be built for AMD64. Mysql uses openssl and we are waiting for that to be updated. James. You may have remaining files from a previous Firefox installation for the second point, i would do the following : Remove firefox by hand ( pkgrm CSWfirefox ) Be sure the target directory is deleted (delete byhand /opt/csw/mozilla/firefox) Be sure that the previous installation directory is deleted also ( firefox installation directory has recently moved. This is from a Solaris 10 box. In fact the link points to the unstable *Sparc* version. AMD64 support from Blastwave is coming but we need supporting libraries built before the larger projects like mysql can be built for AMD64. Mysql uses openssl and we are waiting for that to be updated. James.
