Package install doesn't do this as none has /opt/csw/lib/terminfo as a directory. It could be the legacy of an now updated package. It could be a package without the link in its package file list wrote data to /opt/csw/lib/terminfo and created the dir - you won't see this again as the link is now created so maybe we won't know why. No, I don't believe CSWmlterm to be the culprit. It references and uses .../share/terminfo but not .../lib/terminfo. On the other hand, scrutinizing CSWmlterm has turned up a very minor glitch in its space file; thanks for causing me to find that. But I think, in making .../lib/terminfo into a directory on G?rard Henry's system, the cause lies elsewhere. : chapman; grep lib.terminfo CSWmlterm/p* : chapman; grep lib.terminfo CSWmlterm/i*/* CSWmlterm/install/space:share/lib/terminfo 8 1 I might guess that I had made a similar confusion between the paths previously, but when cleaned up, I typo'd the space file. The typo isn't for .../lib/terminfo, but for a non-existent .../share/lib/ terminfo. It should not break any installations, but I will clean it up for a future release. Perl (5.8.8,REV=2007.03.16). Hardware is a E450 with no other zones beside a YP-Slave. We tried to serve a mediawiki on the one with php5 and otrs on the other (with perl). Both are responding very slow (About 10-20 Sek. for a request from our intranet). Both frontends are using mysql-databases. As the access to the database from the webserver commandline is very fast, this is NOT the bottleneck. Other, static pages are fast, so the access to the webserver isn't either. I spend some time with otrs searching for the bottleneck and it seemed that perl itself (or one of the standard modules) is bad as it does too much filesystem-requests. An old version of xammp could have solved that but that included to install several versions of perl/apache/mysql etc., which didn't match our policy. I fear to loose this service to the windows guys ... Our mediawiki shows the same problems. Here is no perl involved and I have no idea where the error is (it isn't the database, as shown above). I since I haven't got a proper answer on this case, I have decided to ditch the CSW samba package and build my own. It works great and have no problems with it (now). However - if you decide to do the same, I will give you a word of warning. 3.0.25b has a major flaw wich if you don't know about will send you and your users absolutely bonkers. In short, your users will randomly be disconnected (i.e. get error messages right in the middle of doing something with the mapped share, stating that "the network path is no longer available" ) *and* to top it off, they will end up with corrupted or truncated files. See : http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2007-July/133789.html for more details. Also - to fix it - you download the 3.0.25b sources and apply the patch located here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/attachment.cgi?id=2827&action=view Allegedly this patch will make it in 3.0.25c... whenever that happens. At any rate - this crap took me 4 days to track down, and it was an absolute bastard of a thing... it was mostly affecting just a very limited group of users, with a few spikes here and there... nothing you could've put down to smbd being buggy. I even got to the point where I suspected that the network driver dealing with NIC aggregation on Solaris was brain-dead and reverted to a more "normal" configuration using IPMP. Patches like that are what maintainers are good for. If there are problems, the maintainer should include that patch and release it. I personally would rather see more frequent releases that fix problems, than waiting 6+ months for a update. There is a stable and unstable branch, and afaict the unstable version is still that older version. I realize that much testing goes into each release, but I also realize that there is only so much testing a volunteer can do. Without accepting input from the user base at large you'll constantly end up in situations like this. The stable branch is supposed to be updated only every 3 months, and unstable constantly, but I'm not seeing any visible action in unstable with regards to samba. Ken, Thanks, I appreciate it. Sun and SFW have released updates, but our maintance policy is a bit odd for installing sun patches which is why we're using Blastwave. -miah On 7/20/07, Bogdan Iamandei wrote: > -----Original Message----- > From: users-bounces+bogdan=its.uq.edu.au at lists.blastwave.org on behalf of Jeremiah Johnson > Sent: Fri 7/20/2007 8:54 AM > To: users at lists.blastwave.org > Subject: [csw-users] Security Vulnerabilities in Samba. > > Hello, > > I contacted the maintainer of the Samba package well over a month ago > about some vulnerabilities in the Samba package. In there the issue is still under investigation and not closed. BTW: We also once used the blastwave samba packages instead of the ones from SFW. I have always wanted to perform a complete package audit just to see what is out of date and to what degree. The very idea makes me shudder because there are nearly 1700 software packages at Blastwave now. We know that 50% of them have not been touched in a year. Possibly longer. If you are willing to work with me I am dragging down the stable release of samba now. I have the following sources on hand here now : # ls -l samba* -rw-r--r-- 1 fredrik csw 17542009 Feb 24 2006 samba-3.0.21c.tar.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 fredrik csw 17542657 Jun 21 2006 samba-3.0.22.tar.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 dclarke other 17677551 Jul 10 2006 samba-3.0.23.tar.gz -rw-r--r-- 1 dclarke other 18160223 Jun 26 16:34 samba-3.0.25b.tar.gz There you see my name on the previous release source kit and the new one. I simply wanted to make sure that we have both around here to be compliant with the GNU licenses. I am going to take a first pass build of these new sources and if and when I get a package together perhaps you can test it with me. Thanks for your patience and your understanding in this issue. I think that a small satellite controlled cattle prod would be of value here. If a person does not check in a least once a month then the global network of cattle prods will begin to shock people repeatedly at 5 minute intervals until they respond. That may not be very humane but it would work. I'll think up something else. :-) Dennis From jeremiah.johnson at gmail.com Fri Jul 20 18:33:48 2007 From: jeremiah.johnson at gmail.com (Jeremiah Johnson) Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2007 11:33:48 -0500 Subject: [csw-users] Security Vulnerabilities in Samba. As far as automated, just define some rules. If a package is not updated in stable in two release cycles (6 months) then you could either consider it abandoned, or buggy. Looking at the unstable tree and the bug tracker would let you know which of these two possibilities you're looking at. You may want to consider implementing a secondary maintainer for packages. This secondary maintainer wouldn't be in charge of the package, but could assist and should be on any mailing list related to the package. If the primary maintainer is too busy, or leaves then the secondary maintainer could take over as the new maintainre or temporarily until a new maintainer is found. The idea here is to have somebody else that knows about the package, so there isn't a loss of knowledge when a maintainer is lost. -miah From dclarke at blastwave.org Fri Jul 20 19:44:17 2007 From: dclarke at blastwave.org (Dennis Clarke) Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2007 13:44:17 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [csw-users] Security Vulnerabilities in Samba. But there are SFW packages available at the > sunfreeware site. I am not sure why Sun is dragging their feet on > this because as far as I can see the Samba packages included with > Solaris 10 are just SFW packages. > It is a very confusing relationship to be sure. The software that comes with Solaris 10 may be one or two different things. It may be from the defunct Companion CD project. This link : http://www.sun.com/software/solaris/freeware/ Will show a whole list of unsupported software that comes on the Companion CD which is no longer updated. I downloaded the Companion CD for Solaris 10 and then checked to see what is really there. See that list at : http://www.blastwave.org/dclarke/CCD_packages.txt If you do a count you will see 120 names there. At the bottom you see some links to various places but NOT to the 1690+ software packages at Blastwave. That seems to be a competitive attitude or perhaps a "Not Invented Here" attitude at Sun. I don't know. I do know that Steve Christensen over at SunFreeware has been doing this for a million years and he is paid by Sun. I don't know how many software titles are over there but it is a bunch to be sure. Maybe 300 or more and they are all built by him. The software in Solaris 10 seems to be a mixture of things from SunFreeware as well as from the Companion CD and that is all I know. I am guessing really but its probably a good guess. The software at Blastwave has been built, maintained and delivered to the Solaris user base, for free, for five years now. It is built by the Solaris community for the Solaris community and we are doing a pretty good job I think. Some things do slip through the "up to date" filter however. Perhaps with some more involvement from the Solaris user community we could review the current software stack and get all of it into the Subversion system at Blastwave. See http://svn.blastwave.org for more information on that. I will now keep plugging away at the current Samba issue and see if I can get something out for testing promptly. Dennis Clarke Founder Blastwave.org http://www.blastwave.org From car at blastwave.org Fri Jul 20 22:10:43 2007 From: car at blastwave.org (Chris Reece) Date: Sat, 21 Jul 2007 08:10:43 +1200 Subject: [csw-users] tcsh 6.14 postremove bug. Message-ID: Sorry, folks, but there's a bug in the postremove script supplied in the current unstable CSWtcsh package (tcsh-6.14.00,REV=2007.03.19). Some users (possibly restricted to Solaris 8 users) may fail to remove or upgrade this package. Failure results in the following output: ## Executing postremove script. /var/sadm/pkg/CSWtcsh/install/postremove: test: argument expected pkgrm: ERROR: postremove script did not complete successfully Removal of failed. A fixed package is ready to be released. Prior to upgrade, however, users who experience this failure will need to perform two tasks: 1) Removal of the postremove script, like so: rm /var/sadm/pkg/CSWtcsh/install/postremove and, if the fixed package is not to be applied immediately; 2) Correction of /etc/shells, to remove the line that reads: /opt/csw/bin/tcsh # Added by CSWtcsh An alternative to these steps would be to fix the bug manually by editing /var/sadm/pkg/CSWtcsh/install/postremove and placing quotes around ${BASEDIR} on line 7. After these steps have been completed, affected users should then be able to upgrade or remove CSWtcsh without issue. -- Chris Reece http://www.crank.org.uk/ -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... Possible solution: 1- an automated email sent monthly to each maintainer: who does not reply within 3 weeks is flagged by the system as inactive 2- a "ticket" web page which each maintainer must hit at least once a month: if he doesnt, is flagged by the system as inactive 3- a check on the last ssh login on the blastwave's build machines: who does not connect for more than 2 months, is flagged by the system as inactive From dclarke at blastwave.org Sat Jul 21 01:45:10 2007 From: dclarke at blastwave.org (Dennis Clarke) Date: Fri, 20 Jul 2007 19:45:10 -0400 (EDT) Subject: [csw-users] Security Vulnerabilities in Samba. Bogdan, Thanks for pointing that out. -miah ------------------------------- Grrr... I hate OWA. Someone should tell M$ how to do proper quoting. Anyways, onto more productive things now. Yes. I'd like to see more activity on the samba front as well.. I guess, we were only lucky that 3.0.21d (or whatever) was stable enough and it didn't fail as spectacularly as 3.0.25b - right out of the box. I have been considering for a while now to look at the way Sun packages patches, and maybe replicate that. I think I would be pretty safe choosing a range of patchIDs below what Sun is using[0]. The advantage of using patches to perform updates would be that (assuming that the patch is properly done up) you can always revert out of a botched update, compared to the current situation whereby if you have a rogered package, you have to contact the maintainer of the package and get them to send you the old package so you can revert to the last known working version. And yes - it happened a few times especially with cfengine. Oh, and since we're on the samba subject, it would be nice if the solaris package would have an S10 detection routine and install the SMF scripts rather than the old init.d ones? I've got them if anyone needs them.. Tested, para-tested, and over-tested. They work a treat when critical conditions aren't met. Can't do that stuff out of init.d :) Cheers, Ino!~ [0] - I think I'm stuck with using numbers in the patchID. Not sure that the patch-framework is going to be too happy if it finds alpha-numerics instead of just numerics in the PatchID. Although - it's probably worth a try, I've seen enough kernel panics, let's see something new for a change! :) -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... I then do something like pkg-get -i perl ap2_modperl apache2 memcached copy over an httpd.conf cp /etc/apache2/original/httpd.conf /etc/apache2/httpd.conf at the end of my httpd.conf, I append LoadModule perl_module /opt/csw/apache2/libexec/mod_perl.so use Cache::Memcached; and try to restart apache svcadm restart apache2 all is well for about five seconds, then I get Segmentation Fault - core dumped I do a truss -rall -wall -f /lib/svc/method/http-apache2 and get 19591: write(2, 0x08075CB5, 33) = 33 19591: S e g m e n t a t i o n F a u l t - c o r e d u m p e d but I can't find what filehandle 2 corresponds to. If I include LoadModule perl_module /usr/apache2/libexec/mod_perl.so use lib qw( /opt/csw/share/perl/csw /opt/csw/lib/perl/csw ); use Cache::Memcached; and point to the non-blastwave mod_perl.so, and include enough libs to get to the memcached stuff, I get ld.so.1: httpd: fatal: relocation error: file /opt/csw/lib/perl/csw/auto/String/CRC32/CRC32.so: symbol Perl_Gthr_key_ptr: referenced symbol not found Not sure if it helps, but bash-3.00# ldd /opt/csw/apache2/libexec/mod_perl.so libperl.so => /opt/csw/lib/i386/libperl.so libsocket.so.1 => /lib/libsocket.so.1 libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1 libdl.so.1 => /lib/libdl.so.1 libm.so.1 => /lib/libm.so.1 libpthread.so.1 => /lib/libpthread.so.1 libc.so.1 => /lib/libc.so.1 libdb-4.4.so => /opt/csw/bdb44/lib/libdb-4.4.so libmp.so.2 => /lib/libmp.so.2 libmd.so.1 => /lib/libmd.so.1 libscf.so.1 => /lib/libscf.so.1 librt.so.1 => /lib/librt.so.1 libuutil.so.1 => /lib/libuutil.so.1 libgen.so.1 => /lib/libgen.so.1 libm.so.2 => /lib/libm.so.2 bash-3.00# which perl /opt/csw/bin/perl bash-3.00# perl -v This is perl, v5.8.8 built for i86pc-solaris-thread-multi I also included the contents of /opt/csw/apache2/etc/extra/httpd-perl.conf to no avail. You can see the error where it says "for i in ;" so it's apparent that a variable expansion didn't happen. You can try replacing the #!/bin/sh with #!/bin/bash and see if it works better. Then, you should probably fix the bash/ksh to be more portable to true "/bin/sh" and propogate the changes upstream Ben > . > > -Brian > > On 7/25/07, *Tim Longo* > wrote: > > > I'm trying to build an application (OMNet - INET framework) under > Solaris. Message-ID: <1f8fae340707260647x282290ck7694519bc4a5ad51@mail.gmail.com> Hi, I've just been setting up CSWnrpe 2.8.1,REV=2007.06.02 from Stable on a Solaris 10 box and ran in to a minor problem, I don't know if it's worth of a bug report but I'll post it for the archives anyway. In /opt/csw/lib/svc/method/svc-nrpe the stop/restart case statements use: `pgrep -x -u 0,1,146 nrpe` to locate nrpe's PID, unfortunately this system had already had Nagios built from source in the past and as such already had a 'nagios' user with a different UID, breaking the stop/restart methods. I don't know if it's outside of your packaging standards but something like: NRPE_USER=`awk -F'=' '/nrpe_user/ { print $NF }' $CONFIG_FILE` 'restart') [ -n "`pgrep -x -u 0,1,$NRPE_USER nrpe`" ] && kill -TERM `pgrep -x -u 0,1,nagios nrpe` if [ -f $CONFIG_FILE ]; then wait 1 $BIN_FILE -c $CONFIG_FILE -d fi ;; -- Will. I can't seem to get php scripts to work correctly on the server. I've tried a few different settings in the httpd.conf file (since several howto/help sites have conflicting info), but I believe I now have it configured correctly. The script I'm using to test php is here: http://webmail.ece.drexel.edu/test.php It just runs phpinfo(), but even that simple script isn't working. I'll stick a bunch of my httpd checks and excerpts from the config file. BTW, one of the websites I found mentioned that php files should have content-type headers of text/plain. Anyone here, who made similar observations or has an idea what has gone wrong?! Here's your configure: ./configure --prefix /opt/csw/kde-gcc --with-qt-includes=/opt/csw/kde-gcc/include --with-qt-libraries=/opt/csw/kde-gcc/lib You also need CSWqtgcc, but make sure you don't have both CSWqt and CSWqtgcc, as it will cause uic to fail with: checking if UIC has KDE plugins available... no configure: error: you need to install kdelibs first. Anyways, that's the warning. Choose your poison! :) Ino!~ -------------- next part -------------- A non-text attachment was scrubbed... That sort of ensures that SeaMonkey works on all Sparc architectures from Sparc Version 7 and Solaris 8 all the way up to the top. Also, we know that all libraries and dependencies work from the bottom to the top. I have no comment on performance but if I had 200MHz ROSS processors then I am willing to bet that this machine would be quite usable still. well .. that may be pushing it a bit far. :-) Dennis Clarke From anil.verve at gmail.com Tue Jul 24 14:16:52 2007 From: anil.verve at gmail.com (Anil Gulecha) Date: Tue, 24 Jul 2007 17:46:52 +0530 Subject: [csw-users] mplayer component for video outpu 'xv' broken. I know it sounds dumb, but I have been working on this for like a week and would really like some help. These are some pretty decent steps to duplicate. I am on nevada build 68. I install a big zone, nothing shared. I install blastwave on my big zone. Is that correct (that's what I've got, now)? Any suggestions would be appreciated. -Jeremy Wakeman /opt/csw/apache2/sbin/httpd -t Syntax OK /opt/csw/apache2/sbin/httpd -v Server version: Apache/2.2.4 (Unix) Server built: Feb 19 2007 00:20:08 /opt/csw/apache2/sbin/httpd -V Server version: Apache/2.2.4 (Unix) Server built: Feb 19 2007 00:20:08 Server's Module Magic Number: 20051115:4 Server loaded: APR 1.2.8, APR-Util 1.2.8 Compiled using: APR 1.2.8, APR-Util 1.2.8 Architecture: 32-bit Server MPM: Prefork threaded: no forked: yes (variable process count) Server compiled with.... -D APACHE_MPM_DIR="server/mpm/prefork" -D APR_HAS_SENDFILE -D APR_HAS_MMAP -D APR_HAVE_IPV6 (IPv4-mapped addresses enabled) -D APR_USE_FCNTL_SERIALIZE -D APR_USE_PTHREAD_SERIALIZE -D SINGLE_LISTEN_UNSERIALIZED_ACCEPT -D APR_HAS_OTHER_CHILD -D AP_HAVE_RELIABLE_PIPED_LOGS -D DYNAMIC_MODULE_LIMIT=128 -D HTTPD_ROOT="/opt/csw/apache2" -D SUEXEC_BIN="/opt/csw/apache2/sbin/suexec" -D DEFAULT_PIDLOG="/var/run/httpd.pid" -D DEFAULT_SCOREBOARD="logs/apache_runtime_status" -D DEFAULT_LOCKFILE="/var/run/accept.lock" -D DEFAULT_ERRORLOG="logs/error_log" -D AP_TYPES_CONFIG_FILE="etc/mime.types" -D SERVER_CONFIG_FILE="etc/httpd.conf" /opt/csw/apache2/sbin/httpd -S VirtualHost configuration: default server portal.ece.drexel.edu (/opt/csw/apache2/etc/includes/portal.ece.drexel.edu.conf:1) port 80 namevhost portal.ece.drexel.edu (/opt/csw/apache2/etc/includes/portal.ece.drexel.edu.conf:1) port 80 namevhost webmail.ece.drexel.edu (/opt/csw/apache2/etc/includes/webmail.ece.drexel.edu.conf:1) Syntax OK /opt/csw/apache2/sbin/httpd -M Loaded Modules: core_module (static) mpm_prefork_module (static) http_module (static) so_module (static) authn_file_module (shared) authn_dbm_module (shared) authn_anon_module (shared) authn_default_module (shared) authn_alias_module (shared) authz_host_module (shared) authz_groupfile_module (shared) authz_user_module (shared) authz_dbm_module (shared) authz_owner_module (shared) authnz_ldap_module (shared) authz_default_module (shared) auth_basic_module (shared) auth_digest_module (shared) include_module (shared) deflate_module (shared) ldap_module (shared) log_config_module (shared) env_module (shared) mime_magic_module (shared) expires_module (shared) headers_module (shared) setenvif_module (shared) mime_module (shared) status_module (shared) autoindex_module (shared) info_module (shared) cgi_module (shared) negotiation_module (shared) dir_module (shared) actions_module (shared) userdir_module (shared) alias_module (shared) rewrite_module (shared) php5_module (shared) Syntax OK # This is the main Apache HTTP server configuration file.
