Let me add to this.  I have had situation(s) where we are not talking 
about just one package that needed updated.  In that case, `pkg-get -d 
<pkgname>` to /tmp; then `gunzip <pkgname>`, and `pkgadd -d 
/tmp/<pkgname>` works as well.
