With 5.8 beyond end-of-life, I didn't think Sun would give me anything for 5.8.
I do not have a sun-solve account, either. 
(I am hoping I'll get permission during 2010 ..and the time.. to upgrade this workstation to openSolaris.)

So I'll use a softlink to gmd5sum

I think that George is having trouble with the fact that if you run 
pkg-get without having any md5/md5sum installed, you get those error 
messages.

I couldn't find anything in the userguide either regarding that when I 
started out with CSW-packages years ago, so I just installed Sun's md5 
binaries (http://sunsolve.sun.com/md5/md5.tar.Z) in /usr/bin and left it 
at that...
