Dago, do we already have a Wiki page on how to set up a local repository, possibly one without direct internet connection? If not I am gonna create one, especially since "pkgutil --stream" plus your script to build the experimental catalogs can make life a lot easier in such a situation. Yup, looks like a good location indeed (we might think about linking it somewhere from the CSW wiki though, or is it possible to integrate other wikidot pages into the search results?). Peter, what do you think adding a short paragraph on how to build a local offline repository (containing a subset of CSW packages) with pkgutil and cswcatalog [1]? * pkgutil -T : -d * magically transport pkgs to offline site * cswcatalog --pkgdir --repodir Regarding --stream, my usual use case for --stream would be a single offline host installation, not quite sure whether it makes sense when building an offline repository which is to be used for multiple hosts. The postinstall skript finishes with "chroot: No such file or directory", because it tries to invoke the svccfg and svcadm commands from SMF, which don't exist in Solaris 9. A regular init style script had to be created instead. 2) The preinstall skript creates the group and user "puppet" with unspecified gid/uid. This is not a nice thing in our environment (using LDAP for user management), because the "randomly" selected uid/gid might get assigned to a real person later on. We could work around this by creating the puppet user in advance, beforce installing the packet, but I don't see a point in creating this user at all, because the puppetd has to run as root anyway. A dedicated puppet user is appropriate for the puppetmasterd, on the central puppet server, but it is not required on each client. (And for the server, puppetmasterd has the "--mkuser" option which takes care of that.) You need to recompile PHP." As far as I'm aware, the PHP folks have made no effort to make php properly re-entrant, thus it won't work with anything but the prefork mpm. It's not a matter of compiling it with different options. It's a matter of the php authors cleaning it up to be thread safe. TLDR; Stick with prefork if you want php. For correct functioning of the patch system it is recommended to go to http://sunsolve.sun.com/show.do?target=patchpage and install the patches listed at "Latest Patch Utility Patches". To my knowledge Oracle has changed the download policy so a support contract is mandatory for any patch download. You may want to look at package streams for this. It allows downloading all needed packages, bundle them up in a compressed file suitable for easy transfer to a remote system and a commandline to install everyting in one go: Best regards -- Dago From George.Wyche at pw.utc.com Sat Mar 13 01:02:35 2010 From: George.Wyche at pw.utc.com (Wyche, George PW) Date: Fri, 12 Mar 2010 19:02:35 -0500 Subject: [csw-users] pkgutil switches so as to show what WOULD happen. I've verified that no OpenCSW binary has cranberra in NEEDED. It's probably something specific to your system. Try ransacking your library directories for a library that pulls cranberra in. It could be, I've been searching the net and it seems that some dists (Macports for instance) have had some problems with zlib 1.2.4, but the developers of zlib argues that the problem lies with the software calling zlib and that they should be altered, not zlib. But that has usually also been related to build errors not only runtime errors. A recompile of the programs have in many cases solved the problem. Maybe Maciej can rebuild and put in /testing so you can check if it solves the problem. The return values specified in the man page are > only 0-8. Is this something people have seen before? I think it might have something to do with the libxml2/zlib problem. When upgrading a machine which hasn't been online for a while, i noticed that a bunch of pre/post-remove/install scripts failed due to some program dumping core. It seemed that it was either xmlcatalog or scrollkeeper-update that was crashing. However when I ran the command manually it didn't crash so I didn't investigate further. But looking at it now, it seems that both scrollkeeper-update and xmlcatalog is linked to both libz and libxml2, so it might be related to the zlib issue.
