CUPS: foomatic-rip file missing

Hi,

Thanks for the info about the extra package I needed.
But I'm still making very slow progress with CUPS (my cup runneth not at all !)

Now when I run an lp command, I get a request id as normal.
And when I run lpstat I get
    printer 38214L is idle.  enabled since 18 April 2016 14:56:57 BST
        Ready to print.
So that looks ok.

BUT ... I don't get a print.
So I've now switched on debug and bounced cupsd daemon.
I've browsed the error_log and everything looks fine in there ... to me !

Please see the error_log (attached)
Can anyone see in here some evidence for what the problem might be with failure to print ?
(The only thing I saw which might be an issue is no default printer ... do I need one ?)
