I think you are right, but apparently cairo is obsolete:

checking pkg-config is at least version 0.9.0... yes
checking for gtkdoc-check... no
checking for gtkdoc-rebase... no
checking for gtkdoc-mkpdf... no
configure: error: You need to have gtk-doc >= 1.15 installed to build cairo

I suppose it really wants an old version :(

Do we agree trying to disable building gtk doc? I prefer not having a a 
historic gtk port if possible.. it is no longer in the pkg repo.
