I did mostly the same: I pkgrm-ed CSWftype2 that I got from unstable,
and downloaded the one from the stable archives.
This results in a working Gnome2.8 but I'm considering following Armel's
example and replace all of Gnome with the stable version: the current
setup is a bit unstable indeed. Can't set a background, all kinds of
crashing applets etc.
